DNSChanger is a rootkit that has infected millions of PCs across the country. On Monday, the Internet Systems Consortium will permanently shut down all DNS servers that have been deployed as temporary surrogates for rogue DNS servers that were shut down as part of the FBI’s Operation Ghost Click, which brought down an Estonian hacker ring last year. If your PC is one of the many infected computers that carry DNSChanger, you might be unknowingly be relying on one of the temporary DNS servers to access the Internet. If you don’t eliminate DNSChanger from your PC before the plug gets pulled on these servers, you will lose Internet access.
